Grit Guide at University of Maryland, Baltimore County

Class of 2021

Hometown: Rochester, NY

Major: Media and Communications Studies

I chose UMBC because...

it had the major I was looking for, focused on traditional teachings that other universities value but also pushed students to learn and create new innovative teachings/studies/research/projects/etc. UMBC values the student, individually. Professors and Staff see potential in students and give every possible resource to help grow that potential into a reality.

During my first semester, I wish I would have known...

that college is much more fun with friends! It is OKAY to be the first one to initiate conversation.

What makes UMBC home?

How welcoming campus is. Having thousands of students and over 200+ student organizations, you will easily find your people. Throughout my time at UMBC, I met a lot of people and every single one had a deep love for UMBC. This love is what makes the community so strong.

Favorite Spot on Campus

Sitting outside of the Interdisciplinary Life Sciences Building (ILSB), our newest building. Sitting outside on the tables with a light breeze and a perfect view of the Quad, Academic Row and The Commons makes me feel like UMBC is my perfect home.
