My advice to prospective students is go into all your college visits with an open mind. When you are so focused on one thing you tend to miss some details, that you may like about a school.
UMBC is home because of all the people. Ever since I have started my classmates, professors, and other faculty member have been so welcoming and supportive. Everyone here wants to see each other succeed, genuinely cares about your wellbeing At UMBC you are not just a number, but rather a valued member of the community.
My favorite local place to go is OCA Mocha in Arbutus. The food and drinks are really good, and the overall vibe of the place is really chill. It is a great spot to hang out and talk with friends, or even work on stuff for school.
UMBC has helped me grow by becoming more confident in talking in front of others. I am actually a really shy person, however UMBC has helped me break out of my shell. UMBC gave me the opportunity to present a speech in front of the university and it helped me a lot. UMBC has helped me become more confident in myself, a great example being that I applied to be a Grit Guide.
