Class of 2022
Current: Germantown, MD
Hometown: Germantown, MD
Major: Biology (BA)
Minor: Africana Studies
Fun Fact
UMBC produces the most African Americans who pursue M.D, Ph.D than any other university in the country.
I chose UMBC because...
I heard about UMBC's efforts to help African Americans succeed especially in STEM. I believed that I would be welcomed on campus and I would be encouraged to succeed all while receiving a quality education.
My advice to prospective students...
is don't feel stuck to one major or minor. It's ok to not know exactly what you want to do but be willing to explore different fields.
Favorite Class or Professor and Why
UMBC is AFST 100: Intro to the Black Experience, taught by Professor Damon Turner. I took this class my first semester at UMBC and the next semester, I declared a minor in Africana Studies. The class taught me about the different factors that affect Black life and also taught me to identify them in my life. By taking this class, I'd became passionate about fixing the healthcare experience for African Americans.
